Green Gardens Grow

This school garden initiative focused on teaching elementary school children about the importance of eating organic, locally-grown food as well as the importance of preparing healthy meals that include a variety of fruits and vegetables.

The program was originally developed through a design concept contest, which Taylor Scherner developed. Over three years, Rebuild Global was able to generate enough funding to work with three school gardens in San Diego. I managed the program, while earning my graduate degree in landscape architecture. We provided design support, maintenance support, led the community build days and organized fundraising events to support this program and gardens. Together, everyone involved in this project created countless opportunities for schools to educate children in a non-traditional way in an environment enhanced by garden based learning.
