Pop Up Park Engagement

In 2012 and 2013 I played with the urban environment. I was curious why our walls, temporary construction walls or permanent building walls, weren’t more interactive. More playful. Why random little pieces of land didn’t have more inspiring elements to pull in a passerby with art or provide a place to sit and rest in the shade. What was missing in our planning and policy efforts? Why weren’t our streets playing a bigger role in connecting people, stories and place. Why weren’t we seeing the interconnectedness of our urban landscape? We should prioritize making streetscapes people-oriented. Design them to be more like parks, providing an array of amenities that support the social and ecological health of a place. Design them with people in mind, culture in mind, stories in mind and history in mind.
